(Stevensville, MD) The Aberdeen Police Department has upgraded their mobile command vehicle, enabling the agency to better operate remotely during major events and incidents.Peake of Stevensville, MD retrofitted the departments existing mobile command vehicle providing the agency with advanced communication resources and updated workspace for command staff.Aberdeen’s proximity to Interstate 95 and several major cities with large public transportation infrastructures motivated the city and police to upgrade their mobile command vehicle. The police need to be prepared for and be able to respond to any terrorist attacks or major events. The retrofitted mobile command vehicle gives the department the capability to operate in a mobile environment for these incidents. The MCV will also be used for community and special events like parades.The Aberdeen mobile command vehicle is now equipped with multiple connectivity options including cellular and satellite, providing the department with redundant communications. In the event that traditional networks are unavailable, the command staff will have reliable connectivity. The department will utilize Peake’s Tactical-IP VSAT Service for First Responders providing access to data, voice and video communications.Peake retrofitted the interior of the command vehicle to provide the department with more functional, comfortable and efficient space. The rear of the vehicle serves as the communications area with two operators’ positions, a dispatch position, and a communications rack for comms, radios and power. The front of the vehicle provides command space with removable tables and storage bench seating. Peake installed new walls and flooring and retrofitted existing cabinets, installing whiteboards on the cabinet face.A pneumatic mast was installed with a Pelco PTZ camera and four NMO antenna mounts. Peake installed a 7W generator, new and professional cabling and wiring throughout the vehicle as well as new monitors.In the funding and planning stages, the Baltimore Sun wrote an article about the Aberdeen Police Department MCV.
