STEVENSVILLE, MD- Fairfax County (VA) Office of Emergency Management has taken delivery of an upgraded Suburban-based communication solution custom built and integrated by PEAKE.In 2010, Fairfax County Emergency Management took delivery of a first-to-arrive mobile communication vehicle that provides radio communications and satellite data anywhere an incident dictates. Built and integrated on a 2010 Chevy Suburban platform, this mobile command system provides the agency with communication and command capability at a moment’s notice.Recently, the Fairfax command unit was back at PEAKE for an upgrade in video capability. PEAKE installed several video components including a DirecTV antenna on the roof, two flat screen televisions into the rear compartment of the suburban, a rack-mounted Marshall monitor, and an Extron Video Switcher. The increased capability provides the agency with better situational awareness and function.With a roof-mounted .96-meter auto-acquire satellite antenna and utilizing Tactical-IP™ satellite services provided turnkey with the unit, the Fairfax unit can be set-up in moments and can achieve connectivity speeds up to 5Mb/s download and 2Mb/s upload anywhere in the continental United States.“The unit built by PEAKE will provide Fairfax County Emergency Management with a communications lifeline,” stated Fairfax County Emergency Operations Center manager Sulayman Brown. “As we begin to put the unit into service, I am confident we will see improved response and enhanced Emergency Management operations in the field with the help of the advanced communications that the unit provides.”An integrated Airlink Raven X modem leverages the 3G network and provides communication coverage when the satellite is not being used. Built with rear-facing swivel seating and with dual rack mount computers, two operators are able to work concurrently and free of the outside elements.
